ICCN General Assembly and Youth Forum Successfully Held
 
 
The City of Gangneung successfully organized the annual ICCN General Assembly last October 21-24, 2012. This year marked the 4th ICCN General Assembly participated by 23 countries, 24 cities and 11 institute worked together to discuss and review how local government are implementing the convention as well as reaffirmed the importance of local role in safeguarding our intangible cultural heritage. With this year’s theme: The current status of the implementation of the UNESCO 2003 Convention at the local government level and its contribution for the sustainable local development. The representative of the city members, mayors, representative of NGO’s, speakers, guest and other participants shared their ideas and expertise on how the implementation work and its effect in the safeguarding of Intangible cultural heritage and sustainable development. In addition, the ICCN the declaration was also adopted to create more effective and stronger policy.

ICCN Youth Forum Session 2
 
The ICCN also believed that youth plays an important role in safeguarding our intangible cultural heritage and the hope of the future. A total number of 35 youth from 9 countries joined the 3rd International Youth Forum to discuss the similarities and differences of their countries intangible cultural heritage in a more peaceful approach. The youth were enlightened and educated through understanding with each other’s culture as well as paved a way in reducing tension among diverse cultures. We also anticipate that their advocacy and build friendship ties with each other will flourish.
